REP. STEPHEN LYNCH AGAIN SIDES WITH MAGA REPUBLICANS AND REP. MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE ON REPUBLICAN MESSAGING BILL SCAPEGOATING IMMIGRANTS FOR POLITICAL GAIN

Last week, Congressman Stephen Lynch joined with Republicans to become the sole member of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation to vote in favor of Special Interest Alien Reporting Act of 2025, or HR 275, an immigration bill sponsored by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and endorsed by MAGA Republicans. With Rep. Lynch’s vote, this Republican messaging bill passed the House and is on its way to becoming law.

Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of House Democrats – 182 members – voted against the bill. But Stephen Lynch voted for it.

Patrick Roath, candidate for U.S. Congress in the Massachusetts Eighth District, released the following statement in the wake of the vote: “By siding with MAGA extremist Marjorie Taylor Greene and House Republicans to vote for yet another redundant and punitive immigration bill, Representative Lynch again demonstates his inability to stand up against the Trump Administration and stick up for our basic values. Alone among the Massachusetts delegation, he has repeatedly sided with MAGA extremists on Republican messaging bills that scapegoat immigrants for partisan gain. That is the exact opposite of the kind of leadership we need.”

Rep. Lynch’s vote for HR 275 follows his January decision to join Republicans in voting for the Laken Riley Act – another Republican immigration bill designed to hand the Trump Administration more authority to conduct its vast nationwide deportation campaign.
