Social Security is not a handout. It’s earned. You paid into it with every paycheck, and I will fight to protect it.
Absent action from Washington, Social Security benefits are set to drop by more than 20% in the early 2030s. We cannot let that happen.
We can fix that by asking the wealthiest to pay more. Today you pay Social Security taxes on income up to about $185,000 and nothing above it, which means a nurse or a firefighter pays in on every paycheck while the very wealthiest stop paying a few weeks into the year. By asking people to pay in on what they earn above $400,000, we protect everyone’s benefits, extend the program for the next generation, and finally lift the poorest seniors out of poverty.
I’ll also fight to reverse the Republican cuts to Medicare that threaten the care seniors depend on.
