PATRICK ROATH LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN SUBSTACK

INAUGURAL POST DETAILS HOW REP. LYNCH’S RECORD UNDERMINES HIS CLAIM TO BEING AN EFFECTIVE CHECK ON THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION AND MAGA REPUBLICANS

Boston, MA – Patrick Roath, Democratic candidate for Massachusetts’ Eighth Congressional District, today launched his campaign Substack with an inaugural post detailing how Rep. Stephen Lynch’s 24-year voting record reveals a pattern of failing to stand up for Massachusetts values when it matters most.

The inaugural post, titled “When It Matters” and reproduced below, recaps the incumbent’s consistent record of failing to stick up for Massachusetts when it matters most, including by:

  • Supporting Trump’s deportation agenda by being the sole member of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation to vote for the Laken Riley Act earlier this year, which the ACLU warned would “unleash mass deportations on our communities,” and voting on a resolution that praised ICE for its recent enforcement efforts;
  • Voting against the Affordable Care Act, failing to lead on a generationally significant health care policy reform, which extended health care to millions and protected Americans with preexisting conditions from facing discrimination by insurance companies;
  • Maintaining an anti-choice voting record for decades while offering muddled and inconsistent positions on reproductive rights.

“At this critical moment in our nation’s history, we need Representatives in Congress who are actually sticking up for us on the issues that matter,” said Roath. “Congressman Lynch’s record shows a pattern of abandoning Democratic values and Massachusetts principles when the stakes are highest. His vote earlier this year for the Laken Riley Act, which handed the Trump Administration greater authority to detain and deport noncitizens with summary due process, tells you everything you need to know about where he stands.”

The campaign Substack will feature regular updates on policy positions, campaign events, and Roath’s vision for new leadership in Greater Boston and the South Shore. The inaugural post is reproduced below, linked here, and attached in PDF form to this release.

The Substack launch comes as Roath’s campaign continues to build momentum, six weeks after launching. The campaign has participated in dozens of local community events, shown strong early fundraising numbers, and garnered media attention in outlets such as the Boston Globe, Boston.com, WGBH, Politico, and the Free Press.

Patrick Roath is a Jamaica Plain resident, voting rights attorney, and former aide to Governor Deval Patrick. The Democratic primary election will be held in September 2026.
