Patrick Roath announces run for Congress in MA-08

Boston, MA – Patrick Roath – a lawyer, democracy advocate, and Boston resident – is running for U.S. Congress to bring new leadership, fresh perspective, and real solutions to Massachusetts’ Eighth District.

“I’m just convinced that we need new leadership, we need new people, we need new ideas that are really focused on trying to solve the big problems that are facing our country and are really at home here in Greater Boston and the South Shore,” Roath told the Boston Globe this morning.

With roots on the South Shore – his mother was born in Brockton and raised by a single mother in Braintree – Patrick was raised in Connecticut and came to the Boston area to attend Tufts University in 2005 and has remained here ever since. Patrick’s career has been defined by public service and advocacy. He interned in the Obama-Biden White House and then worked as an aide to Governor Deval Patrick. For many years, Patrick chaired the board of Common Cause Massachusetts, where he joined and led successful campaigns to expand voting access, increase government transparency, and strengthen accountability on Beacon Hill.

Patrick’s track record of serving our community – without his own political agenda – uniquely positions him to connect with voters who feel disenfranchised by Congressman Lynch’s prioritization of self-interest over our best interest. Patrick won’t take a dime from corporate PACs because he puts people over politics and special interests.

If elected, Patrick will fight to:

  • Lower the cost of living, combat inflation and rising costs, and ensure that childcare is affordable and accessible to every family
  • Ensure that everybody has a place to call home. He will work to lower rent and housing costs, and address housing availability issues.
  • Stand up to a reckless administration. He’ll lead the fight against President Trump and Elon Musk’s radical agenda to rig the economy for billionaires, implement Project 2025, and destroy our democracy.
