Patrick Roath is a lawyer, democracy advocate, and Boston resident running for U.S. Congress to bring new leadership, fresh perspective, and real solutions to Massachusetts’ Eighth District.
With roots on the South Shore—his mother was born in Brockton and raised by a single mother in Braintree—Patrick was raised in Connecticut and came to the Boston area to attend Tufts University in 2005 and has remained here ever since.
Patrick’s career has been defined by public service and advocacy. After graduating from college, he interned in the Obama-Biden White House and then worked as an aide to Governor Deval Patrick on campaigns and at the State House. In 2010, he represented America abroad as a Fulbright cultural ambassador, teaching English at an Islamic boarding school in rural Malaysia.
For many years, Patrick chaired the board of Common Cause Massachusetts, where he joined and led successful campaigns to expand voting access, increase government transparency, and strengthen accountability on Beacon Hill. Patrick played a key role in fights to pass automatic voter registration and roll out universal mail-in voting options, as well as the ongoing efforts to enact same day registration in Massachusetts.
Patrick spent a decade working as a commercial civil litigator at a leading Boston-based global law firm, where he maintained a robust pro bono practice focused on protecting voting rights. From 2015 to 2016, he clerked for a federal appellate judge nominated by President Obama.
Patrick lives in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston with his spouse Vicky and their troublemaking but adorable rescue dog, Brodie.
